On Monday, September 30th, DPS will proudly participate in GA Reads Day, a celebration of reading across the state. This year, we’re inspired by Georgia’s reading coach, Malcolm Mitchell, who not only overcame literacy challenges but also became a star football player, an author of children's books, and the founder of the Share the Magic Foundation.

PAWS is asking everyone to wear their favorite Georgia gear on this fun day. This can be a favorite professional sports team shirt, college team shirt, DPS or City Park, Georgia destination shirt, or a Peanuts Gang (Charlie Brown, Snoopy, etc) shirt since the theme is Go Nuts for Reading (think Georgia peanuts!)

The assembly will feature videos about Malcolm Mitchell and his books, sing alongs, and an interactive teacher game. Since part of the day's theme is turning the page to a brighter future for all Georgians, each student will receive a pair of sunglasses from PAWS. Classes will be encouraged to drop everything and read for fun for 26 minutes on this day in honor of the number 26 being on Malcolm Mitchell's jersey when he was a football player at the University of Georgia. PAWS is ready to Go Nuts for Reading!
