The five-member Dalton Board of Education serves as the official governing body for the Dalton Public Schools district. Board members are elected to four-year terms, with elections held on a staggered two-year cycle.

The Dalton Board of Education has earned recognition from the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) as an Exemplary Board, a distinction that honors the board's commitment to excellence in educational governance and high standards in the local administration of public schools.
