Tom Jones Educator of the Year Award

Nominations are accepted from mid-January to mid-March for the Tom Jones Educator of the Year award sponsored by the Dalton Education Foundation.

The award is given every year to an educator in Dalton Public Schools who has made significant contributions to the education of children in Dalton and who symbolizes excellence in teaching.

The endowed award is named in memory of Tom Jones, a prominent Dalton businessman who served on the Dalton Board of Education for 26 years and was chairman from 1967 to 1986. Hale-Bowen Academic Excellence in Teaching

Hale-Bowen Excellence in Teaching Award

This award, designed to recognize and reward an outstanding Dalton Public Schools teacher, was established in 1999 by Clifford G. and Kathryn R. Hale.  Mr. Hale served as Dalton Public Schools’ Superintendent from 1945 to 1969.  He has continually stressed the need for “highly competent classroom teachers,” believing that “an effective teacher can inspire, manage and instruct a classroom filled with students” while “a poor teacher cannot manage or succeed with ten.”  He believes that it is the responsibility of the local school district to “attract, train, and retain highly competent and talented teachers.”

Each year, the winner is selected by the students in the Hale Chapter of the National Honor Society at DHS.
