2024 Millage Rate Information

The Dalton Public Schools Board of Education plans to increase the Tax Millage Rate from 2023 to 9.15 mills. This rate adjustment is aimed at supporting the continued growth and improvement of our schools and ensuring high-quality education for all students.

Current 2024 Property Tax Digest and 5 Year History of Levy

Pursuant to the requirements of O.C.G.A. 48-5-32, the Board of Education does here publish the following presentation of the current year's estimated tax digest and levy, along with the history of the tax digest and levy for the past five years.

Estimated Tax Digest and History of Levy (2019 - 2024)  This table provides a summary of the estimated tax digest and levy history from 2019 to 2024, broken down into categories for "Real and Personal," "Motor Vehicles," "Mobile Homes," "Heavy Duty Equipment," and "Utilities."  Real and Personal Values: These have increased each year, from $3,922,809,028 in 2019 to $5,036,360,225 in 2024. Motor Vehicles Values: Decreased from $41,732,450 in 2019 to $23,076,475 in 2024. Mobile Homes Values: Slight variations are noted, starting at $347,653 in 2019 and reaching $398,595 in 2024. Heavy Duty Equipment Values: Only values in 2020 ($91,953) and 2021 ($18,878) are listed; 0 in other years. Utilities Values: Only shown in 2023 at $61,755; 0 in other years. Summary for Each Year:  Gross Digest: Gradually increases from $3,964,889,130 in 2019 to $5,059,835,295 in 2024. Less M&O Exemptions: Increases from $329,687,205 in 2019 to $438,850,726 in 2024. Net M&O Digest: Starts at $3,635,201,925 in 2019 and rises to $4,620,984,569 in 2024. Tax Rates:  Mandated State QBE Tax: Remains steady at 2.000 for all years. Local Millage: Starts at 6.200 in 2019, drops to 6.090 by 2022, then rises to 7.150 in 2024. Total M&O Millage: Ranges from 8.200 in 2019 to 9.150 in 2024. Net Levy (Amount Billed):  Rises from $29,808,656 in 2019 to $42,282,009 in 2024. Net Tax Dollar Increase:  Shows a positive increase for most years, with exceptions in 2020 (-$13,780) and 2021 (-$1,020,095). The highest increase is in 2024 with $6,493,643. Net Tax Percentage Increase:  Varies each year: 1.531% in 2019, -0.046% in 2020, -3.424% in 2021, 3.357% in 2022, 20.335% in 2023, and 18.145% in 2024.

Tax digest amounts represent 100% assessed valuation.

The net levy represents the amount billed and not the amount collected. The above totals are subject to some revisions due to properties that are under appeal. O.C.G.A. 48-5-311 requires temporary tax bills based on 85% of the year's assessed valuation or the taxpayers' return value, whichever is greater.

$226,913,900 is estimated to be added to the 2024 Tax Digest by reassessment.
