Dr. Craft August Column

As we kick off the 2024-25 school year, I am filled with immense pride and excitement about the journey ahead. Our theme this year, "Our Story, Our Strength: Leading as One," perfectly encapsulates the spirit and unity that define Dalton Public Schools. We are blessed with an extraordinary team of educators and staff who are not only dedicated professionals but also passionate about making a positive impact on our students' lives. This collective commitment to excellence is what drives us to create a phenomenal learning environment for every child in our district.

Since the beginning of August, we have already experienced a series of exciting events and initiatives that set the tone for what promises to be a remarkable school year. Our Annual Employee Convocation was nothing short of inspiring. It was a moment for all of us to come together, recharge, and refocus on our shared mission. The energy in the room was palpable, and it was clear that everyone is geared up and ready to make this year one of our best yet.

During the convocation, I had the privilege of sharing my vision for the district, one that emphasizes compassion and culture. As educators, we have the incredible responsibility of shaping not only the minds but also the hearts of our students. Building a culture of care, respect, and inclusivity is essential for fostering an environment where every student feels valued and empowered to succeed. I was deeply moved by the enthusiasm and commitment that our team has shown in embracing this vision. Together, we are poised to lead with heart and purpose.

A highlight of the convocation was the presentation of the Spirit Stick, which this year went to Hammond Creek Middle School. Congratulations to the entire Hammond Creek team for their outstanding spirit and teamwork! The Spirit Stick symbolizes the camaraderie and shared dedication that make Dalton Public Schools a special place to work and learn. I look forward to seeing this spirit continue to flourish throughout the year as we all work together towards our common goals.

I also had the honor of recognizing two exceptional individuals who have made significant contributions to our district. Alison Gotay, the School Nutrition Assistant Manager at City Park School, was named the 2024 Dalton Classified Staff Member of the Year. Alison's dedication to ensuring that our students receive nutritious meals every day is truly commendable. Her hard work and positive attitude have made a lasting impact on our school community, and we are incredibly proud to have her as part of our team.

Additionally, we celebrated Zach Clifton, a 6th-grade Social Studies teacher at Hammond Creek Middle School, who was honored as the 2024 Dalton Public Schools Teacher of the Year. Zach's passion for teaching and his commitment to student success have earned him the admiration of both his colleagues and students. His innovative teaching methods and ability to connect with students on a personal level make him a true role model for educators everywhere. Congratulations to you both on this well-deserved recognition!

As we move forward into this new school year, I am filled with optimism and hope. While we have encountered some challenges with transportation, buses, and traffic, please know that we are continuously working to improve these areas. Our commitment is to provide the best possible experience for our students, staff, and families. Thank you to our community for your continued

support as we navigate through these early hurdles and continue to strive for an extraordinary school year.

The start we have had is just the beginning of what I believe will be an extraordinary year for Dalton Public Schools. Together, as one united team, we will continue to write our story, build on our strengths, and lead with purpose and heart.
