Dalton, GA — Dalton High School is proud to announce the appointment of Chris Prewett as its new head football coach. Known for his exceptional leadership, innovative coaching strategies, and commitment to academic excellence, Coach Prewett is poised to lead the Dalton High football program into a new era of success.

Coach Prewett brings an impressive record of accomplishments to Dalton High School. Most recently, as the head football coach at Roswell High School from 2020 to 2024, he achieved:

  • A remarkable 50-13 record over five years.

  • The program’s first-ever, three consecutive GHSA quarterfinal appearances from 2021 to 2023.

  • Region 5AAAAAAA Runner-Up titles in 2020 and 2021 and Region 7AAAAA Runner-Up in 2024.

  • Region 7AAAAAA Championships in 2022 and 2023.

  • A historic semifinal berth in the GHSA playoffs in 2022, the first since 2016.

  • A 100% graduation rate among senior football players, reflecting his commitment to academic achievement.

Prior to his role as head coach, Coach Prewett served as the Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach at Roswell High School from 2017 to 2020. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in the team’s defensive success, which included:

  • Organizing and implementing game-planning, practice preparation, and personnel development.

  • Leading the defense to become the #2 scoring defense in AAAAAAA during the 2019 season, allowing just 9.0 points per game.

  • Coaching the 2018 Region 4-AAAAAAA Defensive Player of the Year.

  • Mentoring seven First Team All-Region defensive players and seven honorable mention players.

  • Contributing to GHSA AAAAAAA playoff appearances in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Before his time at Roswell, Coach Prewett also served as Defensive Coordinator and Secondary Coach at Johns Creek High School from 2015 to 2017. His collegiate coaching experience includes a role as Defensive Graduate Assistant and Assistant Linebackers Coach at LaGrange College from 2012 to 2014, where he helped mentor two USA South Defensive Players of the Year.

In addition to his coaching accolades, Coach Prewett is deeply committed to the development of his players both on and off the field. He has spearheaded initiatives such as youth football camps, academic accountability programs, and facility enhancements, demonstrating a holistic approach to student-athlete success.

Coach Prewett is a graduate of LaGrange College, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching. He is married to Ashley Prewett, and together they have two children.
